ROCKFORD (WREX) — With the temperature rising for the rest of the week, the City of Rockford is offering a new way to help kids beat the heat.
The city announced they will be hosting what they call ‘hydrant parties’ for children to help beat the heat.
It’s a new concept that was introduced by the Rockford Fire Department and the city’s water department.
The department created a large sprinkler system, which is connected to a hydrant. Hydrant Parties will take place in cul-de-sacs or in blocked off streets.
Here is when the hydrant parties are:
Wednesday, July 17:
Leather Court and Jefferson @ Fairgrounds (1-2:15 p.m.)
Highland Park @ Rural and Roland (2:30-3:45 p.m.)
Thursday, July 18:
Andrews Park @ Central and Sherman (1-2:15 p.m.)
25th Street Park (2:30-3:45 p.m.)
Friday, July 19:
Police District 3 Javelin and New Towne (1-2:15 p.m.)
Saturn Park @ Shiloh and Garrett Lane (2:30-3:45 p.m.)
The city says the goal is to help children cool off and have fun.
