ROCKFORD (WREX)- Teachers from RPS 205 are learning how to help teach their students STEM education.
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math. Teachers gathered at Northern Illinois’ Rockford campus all week to take part in the NIU STEM Ready Project.
The program aims to help teachers improve their knowledge of STEM, and how to connect that with tasks in the real world.
Teachers will also meet with local employers to find out what knowledge and abilities are needed in the workforce.
“”We’re learning how we actually use this every day too as adults,” said Jill Nicosia, a teacher at the Gifted Academy at Marshall Elementary. “So, it’s been a really fun process for us. But, it is great to have those answers for questions that these kids are asking about how we’re using math everyday.”.
The teachers will continue to meet until Friday.
