ROCKFORD (WREX) — A local gaming lounge is looking to give back to the community, while also having fun.
Tantasia and Robert Ervin own Lothan’s Room on Broadway in Rockford. The lounge’s purpose is to provide a safe space for youth and give back to the community. Saturday night, Lothan’s Room is holding one of their Mortal Kombat tournaments, with cash prizes and bragging rights on the line. The tournament is not only to share the fun, but to give back.
Donations of nonperishable food items are being collected for the Rockford Food Pantry upon entry to Saturday’s tournament. The Ervins say every little bit counts.
“One of the things that I always realize, it can happen to any of us or anyone,” says Tantasia Ervin, Co-Owner of Lothan’s Room. “So giving back to one of the pantries… even if it’s not the most… something is better than nothing.”
Lothan’s Room provides a variety of services for the youth in the community outside of gaming. During the school months, the gaming lounge provides free tutoring powered by volunteers.
The owners of the lounge say they are always searching for dedicated and positive role models to take part in their initiative and are open to all community members that have interest.
