Rock House Kids receives donation for more than $10,000 for kitchen renovations

ROCKFORD (WREX) — A safe haven for inner-city kids in Rockford will have a new and improved kitchen soon.

Rock House Kids says they’ve received a donation from the Mill Foundation, a non-profit organization which provides funding for programs and organizations that benefit the youth in the Rockford region.

According to the Mill Foundation’s website, the donation was worth $10,736.96.

“We’re very grateful to receive these grant dollars that will allow us to renovate our kitchen space,” said Dee Lacny, the Executive Director of Rock House Kids. “We serve meals four nights a week to some very hungry children. We also have a lot of volunteers in the kitchen area that help serve the meals to the kids and when they are through, cleanup is necessary. With this grant money now available to use, we will be able to set in motion a kitchen renovation that make the whole meal time process easier and more efficient Our goal is to have an updated kitchen that will last for a very long time.”

Rock House Kids provides hot meals, take-home food bags, and daily essentials to more than 250 inner-city kids of Rockford, four evenings a week.
