ROCKFORD (WREX) – Bookerfest kicked off its annual three-day festival with Family Fun Night.
The event, which was held at Booker Washington Park, featured music, face painting and appearances by the Rockford police and fire departments. Bookerfest is held every summer to recognize the 104-year history of the African American Resource Center. Organizers love how the event brings the community, both young and old, together.
“It’s absolutely wonderful to see the children having fun, to see the children interacting with the adults and visa versa,” said Constance Sturdivant, who is a Case Manager with the African American Resource Center.
Bookerfest continues on Saturday with a festival. Then on Sunday, there will be a morning worship at 10:30 a.m. with three churches participating.
