ROCKFORD (WREX) – An insurance group is helping out the Rockford Fire Department by making a large donation.

COUNTRY Financial made a donation of $1,500 to the department. The donation is part of Operation Helping Heroes. It’s a program run by COUNTRY where each agent is given a certain amount of money to give back to a community.

“The crew here recognized some deficiencies and looking at ways of improving some of the equipment that we have,” said Matt Knott, who is the Division Chief of Administration and Fire Prevention with the Rockford Fire Department. “This donation just made that possible, so we really do appreciate it.”

The donation came from Austin Weaver, an insurance agent in Fitchburg, Wis., who has clients in the Rockford area.

“I’m new to COUNTRY Financial,” said Weaver. “But it’s been a really blessing to work with them, really help out our first responders in the area.”

The Rockford Fire Department says the money will be used to buy equipment for the boat at Station 1.
