ROCKFORD (WREX)- Similar to the very warm weather we felt at the end of June and beginning of this month, hotter temperatures and higher humidity will combine to create some muggy weather for the rest of this week. We could see the heat last well into next week as well.
We do have one cool night before the heat arrives, however. Lows will dip just below 60 degrees tonight, under a clear sky. Calm winds are expected, so some patchy fog may develop under the quiet weather.
Friday will see mainly sunny weather, once any early morning fog clears out. Temperatures being their warm-up, but only to the middle 80’s for Friday afternoon. Humidity rises slightly throughout the day.
Saturday through next week is when we will feel the heat. Highs will be near or at 90 degrees most days, though Monday may warm into the low 90’s. With dew points near 70 degrees, we’ll feel the extra humidity in the air. Heat indices will be in the 90’s at least, with Monday being close to 100 degrees with the heat index. Take it easy and drink plenty of water! Extended periods of hot weather can be taxing on the body, since there isn’t much of a break coming from the heat, even at night.
The weather stays mainly dry during this stretch. There are slight chances for one or two showers Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon along a couple of weak fronts coming through. Most locations will stay dry all weekend. Next week, there’s a slight chance for rain during the middle of the week as a few fronts approach again. The leftovers of Tropical Storm Barry are not expected to impact us locally. We could see a cool down late next week, but plan on 90 degree weather through at least next Thursday.
