ROCKFORD – Fred VanVleet is fresh off an NBA championship, but he has not forgotten the city that raised him. VanVleet returns home this week for his 3rd annual FVV Fan Fest and FVV Summer Camp, which will take place at the UW Health Sports Factory. The Fan Fest is Friday from 5-9 p.m., while the basketball camp is set for Saturday and Sunday.
“It’s good to be able to do it once and twice and now three times,” VanVleet said. “To be able to keep doing it, I think it’s relatively easy to do it one year but to continue it and try to grow each year and meet people’s expectations and meet your own expectations. It’s been fun.”
Friday’s festivities will include lots of fun activities for kids, including bouncy houses, basketball shooting stations, t-shirt printing and more. The night will conclude with a 3-point shootout and dunk contest. Then the work begins for campers Saturday and Sunday on the court.
“I’m just really looking forward to having a great weekend,” VanVleet said. “I remember the Mondays after the weekend I’m exhausted and tired from running around, but it’s a great feeling to have poured it all back into where I’m from.”
Admission to the Fan Fest is $5 and tickets can be purchased at the door. The Summer Camp costs $100 and includes both days of basketball camp, running from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Lunch and a t-shirt are also included for campers, who will work on their skills and compete in contests led by VanVleet and his staff.
