Rockford Water Lantern Festival canceled due to low participation

ROCKFORD (WREX) — A nationwide festival will no longer have an event in Rockford as organizers have canceled this year’s event.

The Water Lantern Festival announced today it will not be moving forward with the July 27 event due to low participation numbers.

“We’re sorry for the inconvenience, and we wished that we could have held it in Rockford, however the event did not grow enough to hold it,” read a Facebook post from the Water Lantern Festival.

Organizers say the event will be combined with two other events held in the region.

If you have purchased tickets to the Rockford event, they will be valid for the July 20 event in Chicago’s Humboldt Park or the Aug. 24 event in Madison’s Warer Park.

“In working closely with our team and venue contacts, these new venue locations will provide a much better and more beautiful experience for all of our guests,” the Facebook post continued.
