Rockford alderman will resign before Afghanistan deployment

ROCKFORD (WREX) — Rockford’s city council will soon have a new alderman as one prepares to deploy to Afghanistan.

Ald. Jonathan Logemann plans to resign on Monday as he prepares to deploy with the National Guard. Logemann will resume his role as the Ward 2 alderman when he returns from deployment in about a year.

Now the city of Rockford says Logemann is working on providing the name of one or more people he recommends as a replacement to represent Ward 2 while he is overseas.

Mayor Tom McNamara will appoint one person for consideration by the council. The seat will stay vacant until city council approves the replacement.
