Man indicted on first degree murder charges after June shooting in Rockford

ROCKFORD (WREX) — A Rockford man who is accused of a June 2019 murder is now officially indicted on multiple charges.

Quinton A. Smith, 23, is charged with first degree murder for the shooting death of Joseph Hernandez, according to the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Smith allegedly shot Hernandez and a woman on June 18 on the 100 block of Adams Street, according to Rockford Police. Officers learned Hernandez and Smith got into an argument, which led up to the shooting.

Smith is charged with first degree murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated battery with a firearm. Smith is in the Winnebago County Jail.
