ROCKFORD – Bryson and Donovan Williams grew up in Rockford before moving to Nebraska with their family a few years ago. Bryson is gearing up for his sophomore season on Wisconsin’s football team, while Donovan is committed to play basketball at Nebraska.
The brothers returned home to Rockford about a week and a half ago for the Chicagoland Summer Showcase basketball tournament, where Donovan’s team was playing. Donovan is out with a torn ACL and expects to return to the court this coming winter. For now, he’s supporting his big brother Bryson and the Badgers. Bryson hopes to take the next step in his football career.
“I got a lot of opportunity to play toward the 2nd half of the season, getting to start the last 5 or 6 games,” Bryson said. “I really learned a lot from that. I’m really excited to bring that into next year. I’m focused on playing a lot more. I’m excited to take on every opportunity that I get. I think next year we’ll be able to maximize it a little more than we could last year.”
Donovan is excited to cheer on his brother from afar.
“It means the world to me,” Donovan said. “That’s my big brother. We’re like best friends. We do everything together until he moved to Wisconsin. Just him having a big impact on a great team like that that usually sends a lot of linemen to the NFL, I couldn’t be happier.”
Bryson is getting ready for fall camp ahead of the 2019 Badgers season, while Donovan continues to rehab his knee ahead of his return to the basketball court. They got to see some old friends while in Rockford, to help get them recharged ahead of an important year.
