Authorities: Suspects make cocaine deal in Walmart parking lot with infant in the car

WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WREX) — Two people are in custody after they allegedly made a drug deal with a child in the car.

Charleston Collins, 30, and Jasmine Barfield, 25, both of Rockford, were taken into custody earlier this week.

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office says they conducted a narcotics investigation in the area of the Walmart parking lot on W. Riverside Blvd.

Authorities saw a drug deal take place between Collins and Barfield and they were taken into custody. When officers searched the vehicle, they found crack cocaine, heroin and a child who is believed to be about 18 months old.

Both Collins and Barfield face multiple charges, including endangering the life/health of a child and possession with intent to deliver 1-15 grams of cocaine. Collins also faces charges of having 1-15 grams of heroin.

Both suspects are being lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.
