ROCKFORD (WREX) — A Rockford scholarship program gets a big boost in helping Rockford-area students go to college.

The Mill Foundation awarded Rockford Promise a $2,500 grant on Tuesday at the Rockford Boys and Girls Club.

Rockford Promise is an organization that covers the cost of college through a scholarship for qualified high school graduates from Rockford Public Schools.

Program leaders hope the grant helps them to continue their mission of helping Rockford’s youth.

“We want to lift up the young people of Rockford who graduate from the Rockford schools and give them the hope of a post-secondary education,” said Elaine Breck, the Rockford Promise Board of Directors President.

Rockford Promise has given out nearly $700,00 in scholarships since starting in 2007.
