BELVIDERE – The Rockford All-Star Basketball Camp is a community staple every summer, and camp director Dale Greenlee makes sure to keep the tradition going. This year marks the 38th year of the camp, which focuses on the game’s fundamentals, but also a bigger theme.
“One thing we really try to instill is teamwork,” Greenlee, a Guilford grad and former Kansas Jayhawk, said. “We talk about teamwork everyday. You may not be the tallest or the fastest on your team, but you can be the best teammate. You can be a helper to other kids and a helper to the coach.”
The campers are also fostering their love of the game while improving their skills on the court.
“Just how fun it is,” camper Kaylee Sherman, who’s going into 6th grade at St. Rita, said when asked about her favorite thing about basketball. “My teammates and it’s an amazing sport that I just love.”
The camp runs through Friday at Belvidere North High School.
