ROCKFORD (WREX)- Local leaders gather on Monday to announce their plans for Rockford Day, which will be celebrated in a little over a month.

“We have some incredible features in our city,” said Barb Chidley, Rockford Neighborhood Specialist. “[We have] events, locations, incredible food and a lot of fun. Most importantly, we have some incredible people in our city.”

The fourth annual Rockford Day will be celebrated on August 15, or 8-15, just like the area code.

It looks to shed a light on positive things happening in the Forest City. So far, 20 businesses have signed up with special deals and promotions on that day.

A new photo contest will also be held this year.

“I think we have so many great assets, if you’re looking at the Klehm Aboretum, the riverfront or the murals. There are so many great things,” said Mayor Tom McNamara. “I’m really looking forward to people sharing their source of pride with the city of Rockford.”

The city is also offering prize baskets for the best photo entries.
