LOVES PARK – The Rockford Rivets and Kenosha Kingfish provided plenty of daytime fireworks before the Independence Day show in the skies later tonight.

The Rivets walked off the Kingfish in a 10-9 thriller at Choice Furniture Field at Rivets Stadium in Loves Park, overcoming a brutal top of the ninth inning.

The Rivets got off on the right foot with a 4-0 lead after three innings before Kenosha tied the game in the top of the sixth. After four Rockford runs in the seventh and eighth innings, the Kingfish unloaded five runs in the top of the ninth to take a 9-8 lead before the Rivets plated the final two in the bottom of the frame for the walkoff win.

Jake VanderWal and Andrew Wilhite combined to go 6 for 8 in the top two spots in the Rivets lineup. Wilhite, a Stillman Valley graduate, totaled 3 RBI and 4 runs scored with 2 walks.
