ROCKFORD (WREX) — A water balloon fight helped people beat the heat and raise money for a good cause.
The Rockford Area Realtors Young Professional Network hosted its annual Rock the Block event. This year, money raised at Rock the Block will go toward the Family Peace Center in Rockford.
“Realtors are heavily involved and heavily invested in our community,” said Rockford Area Realtors CEO, Conor Brown. “So we just see this as a way of giving back on an issue that is very critical.”
Teams paid a $500 to enter into a squirt gun and water balloon fight. Participants could also pay to dunk Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara in a dunk tank.
The Family Peace Center will be a one-stop shop for survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking and sexual assault to receive services and get justice for the crimes committed against them. The peace center is led by the Mayor’s Office of Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking Prevention and the 17th Judicial Circuit Domestic Violence Coordinated Court.
In past years, Rock the Block raised money to make street improvements on Broadway street, refurbish Centennial Park across from the UW Health Sports Factory and creating a play area in Machesney Park.
Rockford Area Realtors raised $5,000 for the Family Peace Center.
