ROCKFORD – The first weekend of the Chicagoland Summer Showcase came to a close at Rock Valley College on Sunday, with another busy day of basketball.
College coaches and scouts returned to the RVC gym to watch a full schedule of Midwestern prep teams take the court and showcase their talents. With one more weekend to go, feedback has been positive for organizers.
“That’s all that matters because that’s why we’re doing this – for the college coaches to look at the kids during the live period, and the high school coaches to come out and have a great venue to showcase their kids’ talent regardless of what level they’re at,” said RPS 205 athletic director Mat Parker.
Bracket play featured two big school championship games and a small school title game. One of the big school games went down to the final buzzer, with Quay Robinson of Rockford Jefferson beating the horn and a late tie to give the J-Hawks a 66-64 victory over Benson Magnet from Omaha, Nebraska.
