ROCKFORD – Former Winnebago basketball star Brandon Suggs will join a couple of his former AAU teammates in central Illinois this coming year. Suggs and Antoine Pittman are both transferring to Lincoln College, where they’ll play with Trayvon Tyler, a former Auburn standout who has played well for the Lynx.
Suggs started his college career at Bethune-Cookman in Florida before transferring to UMKC. But when the Kangaroos fired their coach, several players hopped away from Kansas City, including Suggs and Rockford Lutheran grad Kenny Strawbridge, who will attend Western Nebraska, a Division I junior college, next year.
Suggs made the decision to link up with a couple of his friends, which could help make Lincoln a force in the NAIA ranks next year. Pittman is transferring from Bradley, while Tyler joined Lincoln when it was a junior college, and helped the program transition into NAIA status as a four-year college. Suggs hopes to bring all the things he’s learned from his two NCAA DI stops with him to Lincoln.
“It’s definitely helped playing in different places around the country,” Suggs said. “Getting to see different scenery and different schools. There’s a lot of different types of programs. That’s kind of helped me with my experience and learning from different coaches.”
Suggs has two years of college basketball eligibility remaining, while Pittman and Tyler are both seniors.
