Rivets beat Battle Creek, 10-2

LOVES PARK – The Rockford Rivets fell into an early 2-0 hole, but stormed back to beat the Battle Creek Bombers, 10-2.

The Rivets scored a run in the 2nd on an RBI groundout, then scored two more runs in the 4th inning on an RBI triple from Illinois Fighting Illini infielder Cam McDonald, followed by an RBI double by Long Beach State outfielder Jake VanderWal.

Rockford tacked on a run in the 6th before exploding for a 6-run 7th inning to pull away for the big victory. Stillman Valley grad and Minnesota rising sophomore Andrew Wilhite went 2-5, scoring a run in the win.

The two teams are scheduled to play again Wednesday with a 6:35 p.m. first pitch.
