Megadeth front man diagnosed with throat cancer, state fair concert cancelled

SPRINGFIELD (WREX) — Dave Mustaine, the front man for heavy metal band Megadeth has been diagnosed with throat cancer, forcing the band to cancel many performances, including the one in August at the Illinois State Fair.

Megadeth was set to open the fair on Aug. 9. The band released this statement:

“I’ve been diagnosed with throat cancer. It’s clearly something to be respected and faced head on — but I’ve faced obstacles before. I’m working closely with my doctors, and we’ve mapped out a treatment plan which they feel has a 90% success rate. Treatment has already begun.”

The statement says the band is currently working in the studio on a following up to their most recent album Dystopia.
