ROCKFORD (WREX) – The weather slowly gets back to feeling like summer with warmer weather and higher humidity. A few chances for rain come with the warm-up, but there will be plenty of dry days too.
Tonight, the weather remains cool to mild with temperatures in the 50’s and 60’s. The sky remains mostly cloudy, yet dry as rain holds off for another night. Patchy fog is possible as winds go calm overnight.
Tuesday will be on the cloudy end again, especially with the patchy fog in place, but temperatures should be warmer. We’ll rise to the upper 70’s by the afternoon. There is a slight chance for rain in the evening as a cold front approaches.
The cold front sweeps through Tuesday night, sparking showers and storms. We’ll continue to see rain chances into Wednesday with more scattered showers and storms. Heavy rain looks possible, but the highest chance for that will be in central Illinois. Wednesday cools off to the low 70’s again.
Even with cooler weather hanging around, the humidity will be on the rise. Conditions will feel muggy by the end of the week as dew points climb to the 60’s. Thankfully the heat will be down, so we don’t have to deal with hot and humid weather combined.
Later in the week, Thursday and Friday look mainly dry, with temperatures rising again back to the upper 70’s. By the weekend, we should see a return of 80 degree weather. Both days feature chances for rain, however. Saturday’s showers and storms may be contained to just the morning, while Sunday’s chances are spread out over the day, for now. The humidity may rise a little further, resulting in the heat index getting into the middle to upper 80’s at times.
We may cool off again to the upper 70’s by early next week. The humidity may not drop off much next week.
