ROCKFORD (WREX) — A community housing organization holds its annual women’s empowerment event on Saturday.
Habitat for Humanity hosted its second annual Women Build initiative to empower and unify women. The project allows women the opportunity to toss on a hard hat and learn how to build homes.
“It’s so very important to show the strength of this community through our women,” said Martesha Brown, Habitat for Humanity Volunteer.
Of the 60 volunteers that supported the event,. 40 of them were women looking to learn new skills.
The project included working on four different homes along Holiday Drive. From framing to siding, volunteers were able to learn about many parts of the home construction process.
“When you think about the strong and powerful women that we have in the Rockford Region and this community,” said Brown, “it’s really awesome that we can bring all of them together to be able to be a part of this initiative.”
