Belvidere schools donate furniture to classrooms in Haiti

BELVIDERE (WREX) — Belvidere School District schools are helping to bring quality education to Haiti.

District schools teamed up with Hope for Haitians this week to donate four shipping containers full of classroom furniture to the organization’s sponsored communities.

Each shipping container holds around 200 pieces of furniture. Organizers say that even one desk can make a difference.

In countries like Haiti, what I learned last year when I was there, is that they don’t have school furniture,” Hope for Haitians Outreach Coordinator Dan Maguire said. “So, the kids are on the floor, the teachers have no where to sit. So, this is really impacting and changing lives.”

Volunteers say the supplies should arrive in Haiti in the next three to four weeks.
