ROCKFORD (WREX) – As kids start to head to the pool, two local organizations are teaming up in hopes to prepare kids for the water.

The Rockford Park District and YMCA of Rock River Valley announced a new partnership to teach kids summer swim lessons.

The lessons will include financial assistance for those who qualify.

Organizers say this is all in an effort kids to learn important life skills.

“Learning how to swim, it builds confidence in young people. It teaches them new skills and abilities for things they walk away from a swim lesson with the understanding of a new skill but also a sense of achievement,” said CEO of YMCA Rock River Valley Brent Pentenburg.

The swim lessons will take place at Alpine Pool and Harkins Aquatic Center.
