SwedishAmerican awards community grants

ROCKFORD (WREX) — Tens of thousands of dollars are coming to some local groups that help children.

The Swedish American Foundation presented $58,000 dollars worth of grants to Awaken 815, KFACT,Rockford Area Lutheran Ministries and Stateline Youth for Christ Grants.

The money will help these organizations mentor more kids, help at risk adults find employment and provide counseling to more people in juvenile detention.

Leaders from the organization are excited to be able to expand their reach.

“I’m very excited and it’s a pleasure to be abe to give back to our community. It takes a village to be able to go through our community and see what change is like, said Jurea Crudup, Awaken 815 principal.

The grants will help these programs help more than 30 people in the Rockford community.
