ROCKFORD (WREX) — A Rockford radio station is bringing help to military overseas.

13 WREX radio partner, 95.3 The Bull started Operation Shoe Box earlier this year. The point of the operation was to help servicemen and women get the things they need overseas.

A variety of items were asked for, including toilet paper, handy wipes and snack items.

The radio station partnered with others in the community, including schools to help decorate boxes. The radio station’s expectations were far exceeded by the community.

“Over 810 boxes. We thought if we got 95 boxes it would be a great day. We’ve got way more than we thought,” said Steve Summers, the morning producer at 95.3 The Bull.

The boxes will now be shipped to Springfield, Missouri, which is where the hub for Operation Shoe Box is. From there, they will be sent overseas.
