Ice cream social held to benefit the Silver Creek Museum

FREEPORT (WREX) – A local museum got help from an organization through an ice cream social.

The Stephenson County Antique Engine Club held an ice cream social fundraiser on Monday to benefit the Silver Creek Museum. Along with ice cream, participants got to enjoy the museum’s 28 rooms and outdoor attractions. Those who work at the museum say its important for them to teach others about local history.

“People can come see how hard it used to be compared to now,” said Steve Rognas, who is President of the Stephenson County Antique Engine Club. “Now, ‘hey Alexa, turn the lights on,’ and stuff. In the old days, you had to light a lamp to see and stuff like that.”

Monday’s event also included many antique engines and a steam train ride.
