ROCKFORD – The high school baseball season had to fight off another round of Mother Nature’s fury on Saturday as morning rain forced another round of time changes, but once the skies cleared, a lot of great games unfolded on the diamond.

Local game summaries are organized by class.

Class 3-A

Boylan 11, Stillman Valley 9 (8 innings): The Titans went to the long ball to build a 7-0 lead before the Cardinals rallied late, and tied the game at 9 in the 7th inning. Boylan plated a pair to come away with an extra-innings thriller at Lutheran to advance to the sectional round. The Titans will face Sycamore on Wednesday in the 3-A sectional semifinal at Sycamore.

Dixon 8, Rochelle 2: Payton Lawrence delivered a complete game gem for the Dukes, firing 15 strikeouts for Dixon’s first ever regional championship. Dixon took a 3-0 lead before the Hubs got a two-run home run from Cody Johnson. The Dukes offense took over from there to give Lawrence the necessary run support. Dixon will next face Kaneland in the 3-A sectional semifinal on Wednesday at Sycamore.

Class 4-A

Hampshire 5, Hononegah 3: The Indians and Whip-Purs were originally scheduled to play at Harlem on Friday before the game was pushed to Saturday afternoon in Rockton. Hononegah struck first before Hampshire scored three runs in a row. The two teams went back and forth and the Indians loaded the bases in the bottom of the 7th, but couldn’t close the gap as the Whip-Purs hung on for the victory.

Huntley 4, Belvidere North 2: The Blue Thunder and Red Raiders were moved to Elmhurst because of the weather, and Huntley hung on to win the 4-A regional championship against the NIC-10 representatives.
