ROCKFORD (WREX) – Friday was a proud day for a group of area students looking to join the workforce.

Twelve students who were part of the Project Search program graduated at Mercyhealth Hospital.

The program gives local students with disabilities a 10-month internship to gain experience during their last year of high school. The goal is to give the students work skills needed to prepare them for a real-world job.

“This is very important because we are providing opportunities for individuals who may need a little bit of extra support in getting some work opportunities and work experience,” said Kathy Adams, Mercyhealth Hospital’s senior director.

Program organizers say about half of the class has already earned a job.
