Police: Dispute leads to shots fired and three people being arrested

ROCKFORD (WREX) — Three people were taken into custody following a dispute and shots being fired.

Mackenzie McCarren, 21,Jerel Hamiton, 20, both of Rockford and Nicholas Maxey, 19, of Loves Park, all face charges following the incident.

Police say it happened around 3 p.m. Thursday in the area of the 1400 block Jackson St.

Officers say a dispute between McCarren and Maxey, who used to be roommates. During the dispute, McCarren’s boyfriend, Hamilton, threatened Maxey with a gun.

Maxey left the scene in a van that had two women and a child inside. Hamilton shot at the van and hit it, but no one was hurt.

Maxey later returned to the scene and damaged a vehicle before fighting one of the officers.

All three suspects were taken into custody and face charges.

Hamilton faces charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapons by a felon. Maxey faces charges of aggravated battery to a police officer and criminal damage to a vehicle. McCarren faces charges of not having a FOID card.

All three are being held in the Winnebago County Jail.
