FREEPORT (WREX) – Several students at a stateline elementary school are getting to learn how to be friendly to the environment.
Center Elementary School in Freeport has a gardening club.
The school says more than 60 students from kindergarten to fourth grade take part in the club.
They get to learn about gardening and other topics like seeds, farmers markets and different types of fruits and vegetables.
The school says the kids even made a cookbook.
“It’s an important thing for them to learn about their own food, to hang out with each other, to hang out with different people from our community, we have volunteers here, and to just learn and hang out and socialize, have snacks,” said Center School supervisor Nikki Matthews.
Matthews says she would like to expand the club in the future.
