ROSCOE – The Rock Valley College softball team left no doubt that their championship streak would remain intact Friday night, beating Schoolcraft 13-1 to win the district title and return to the national tournament.
RVC’s streak of five straight national championships is alive and well after winning the best of three series against Schoolcraft on Friday.
They did have to fight off Mother Nature to get the job done, pushing Game 1 back to a 5:00pm first pitch on campus, winning 3-1. Because RVC’s stadium doesn’t have lights, they moved to Swanson Park in Roscoe and played under the lights with a 7:00pm first pitch.
RVC raced out to an 8-0 lead, powered by a Megen Johnson two-run home run in that span. Paige Webster added a two-run base hit to reach double figures on the scoreboard, and Courtney Fernette added the final blow with a three-run blast to complete the scoring and send the Lady Golden Eagles back to nationals.
