PAWS Humane Society puts cat intakes on hold

ROCKFORD (WREX) – A humane society in Rockford says it cannot take in any cats.

PAWS Humane Society announced on its Facebook page on Wednesday that it is on hold for any cat intakes as it has well over 100 cats. The organization says it will put cats on its waiting list if people call the hotline or will support people if they foster the cats until the humane society is able to take them in. PAWS says Winnebago County Animal Services is taking in fewer cats, which is what created the overflow for its group.

“We’re treading water,” said PAWS Humane Society Board President Sue Golan. “We’re trying to help as many as we possibly can. We’re going to have to probably reach out to outside of our own county for help from other shelters.”

PAWS Humane Society adds that it always needs fosters.
