MACHESNEY PARK (WREX) — Students at Harlem High School have spent nearly a year digging into the school’s history and Thursday night it all came together.

A group of 7 students and 2 teachers held a premiere of their documentary Thursday night of Her Story, a documentary about Annetta Tucker, Harlem High School’s first black graduate.

It was an emotional story for Tucker’s family who was at the premiere and a project the students won’t soon forget.

“When you’re going through the motions you don’t see how it’s going to come together,” senior and documentary narrator Tiana Jackson said. “Then when you sit back and watch and it’s like ‘Wow we did this research. we created this story for everyone to see,’ and that’s something that can’t be taken away from us.”

Harlem High School says it’s working on making the documentary available to stream on Youtube. CLICK HERE to watch the trailer.

“It was really cool to go through all the information about what the classes were like back then,” senior Jada Cooper said.
