UPDATE: Juvenile hurt in crash faces life-threatening injuries

UPDATE: ROCKFORD (WREX) — Rockford Police say a juvenile involved in a serious crash is now fighting for his life.

Police say they responded around 10:45 a.m. at N. Main St. and Elmwood Rd. for a two vehicle crash.

Authorities say based on the preliminary investigation, a white SUV was traveling south on N. Main St. when it disregarded the traffic light and collided with a silver SUV that was turning to head north on N. Main St.

Police say the driver of the white SUV was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A juvenile inside the white SUV was also taken to the hospital, where police say his injuries are life-threatening.

The driver of the silver SUV was also taken to the hospital, with what police are calling non-life threatening injuries.

The Rockford Police Department’s Traffic Reconstruction Team is currently on scene and the intersection will be shut down for the next several hours. Drivers are encouraged to use Route 251 as an alternate route.

The investigation into the accident is active and ongoing. No further information is available at this time.

The fire department also said a juvenile is involved, but did not say if their injuries are life threatening.
