OREGON – Oregon senior Abby Hopkins qualified for the 1-A girls state track meet in both the 100M and 300M hurdle events, as she’ll finish her career on the big blue track at Eastern Illinois. This marks the 3rd straight year Hopkins will compete in at least one hurdle event at state.

“That means a lot,” Hopkins said of going to state again. “This is one of the sports I look forward to most. Having it as an individual sport I really try to work my hardest. Having that work pay off is one of the best things I could ask for.”

She’s not the only Lady Hawks athlete heading to state. They won a Big Northern Conference title a couple of weeks ago and finished 2nd at Sectionals as a team last week, with several athletes punching tickets to Charleston.

“Having it be the last time ever that I’m going to run, and having this team work as hard as they do, I’m so proud of the team and what we’ve accomplished,” Hopkins said. “It’s a whole team effort.”

The 1-A prelims are set for Thursday, with state finals for all three classes on Saturday.
