Club Blue gives nearly $200,000 to local children’s charities

ROCKFORD (WREX) – Two children’s charities are getting tens of thousands of dollars thanks to Club Blue.

The foundation presented checks to both Children’s Home and Aid and The Medical Evaluation Response Initiative Team or MERIT. The money was raised at the 2019 Club Blue event. The two organizations were chosen by a selection committee to get the grants. Children’s Home and Aid got nearly $40,000 while MERIT received more than $150,000.

“What it means for our organization is that we are going to start a grow a program that will provide 24/7 coverage to this community for any child under the age of 13 who presents to an emergency department or anywhere with an acute sexual assault,” said Shannon Krueger, MERIT director and nurse practitioner.

Club Blue says in eight years it t has raised more than $2 million to support children in need in our community.
