ROCKFORD (WREX)- The plea to bring a casino to Rockford is getting support from the Rockford Park District.

“The economic impact helps the community out,” said Jay Sandine, Rockford Park District Executive Director.

The district’s staff recommends bringing a casino to the forest city, it has supported it in the past.

It says bringing gaming expansion would give the community a competitive advantage that other communities already have to bring investments for revitalization.

“We feel that it is important for a lot of different reasons,” said Sandine. “Number one is obviously to get a large business here in town producing new property tax revenue helps all of the tax supported entities continue to offer services that we offer every day.”

The park district passed a resolution to support the plan at its meeting on Tuesday night. It plans to give that and a letter of support to state lawmakers.
