ROCKFORD – The East girls soccer team got a tough test from crosstown rival Jefferson in the opening round of the 3-A playoffs, but the Lady E-Rabs survived with a 3-1 victory to advance.

East got two goals from Jamie Ward, one in the 1st half and one in the 1st five minutes of the 2nd half to take a 2-0 lead. The game stayed that way for about 30 minutes until Jefferson’s Briseyda Valencia Lopez scored with less than six minutes to play to cut it to a 2-1 game. East got some insurance three minutes later when Ward sent a ball across the field, and Say Paw knocked it in with her body for the final tally of the game.

The Lady E-Rabs advance to face top-seeded Barrington in the DeKalb Regional semifinals Tuesday at 4 p.m.
