SYCAMORE (WREX) — A northern Illinois woman who hopes to compete in the Olympics can add another accomplishment to her list: joining the Army.
Lake Kwaza is from Sycamore and she hopes to compete as a bobsledder in the 2022 Beijing winter Olympics.
That’s where the U.S. Army comes in: it has a program that allows top-ranked soldier athletes to compete at the international level while also serving their country.
Kwaza joined the U.S. Army in April as a wheeled vehicle mechanic and leaves for basic training around Memorial Day.
She has multiple world bobsled championships under her belt.
