Violent crime down in Rockford for first quarter of 2019

ROCKFORD (WREX) – Rockford Police say violent crime is down in the city of Rockford.

It says violent crime has dropped 22% in the first quarter of 2019 when compared to last year.

Here is the list of crimes that dropped:

  • Robberies: Down 35%
  • Property Crimes: Down 25%
  • Shots Fired: Down 20%
  • Aggravated Assaults: Down 16%
  • Auto Thefts: Down 28%.

The Rockford Fire Department also released it’s data Thursday.

Fire calls are down 30% compared to the same time last year. EMS and search-and-rescue dropped 3%.

While overall calls are down by 1%, the department says it’s one of the busiest in the state with more than 7,000 calls in the first three months of the year.
