ROCKFORD (WREX) — A Rockford man who got to fulfill a dying wish by marrying the woman of his dreams has passed away.
Chris Stroud died earlier this week from brain cancer, according to Heartland Hospice.
Stroud’s dying wish was to marry the love of his life. He got to fulfill that wish April 9 when he tied the knot with Gina Stroud.
Heartland Hospice helped organize the wedding at Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens.
The couple got engaged two years ago but due to his illness couldn’t afford a wedding. Heartland Hospice helped change that and coordinated the wedding at the conservatory.
Heartland Hospice said it will follow up with Chris’ family, including Gina, for at least the next 13 months to offer support.
Multiple businesses pitched in to make the day a reality. By the Dozen donated a cake, Stems & Stuff donated floral bouquets and centerpieces, Busch Jewelers donated the bride’s ring, Classic Limousine and Courtyard Marriott also donated their services, and the Nicholas Conservatory donated the use of the venue.
