Woman thanks Boone County first responders who rescued her from car crash

BELVIDERE (WREX) – A woman injured in a serious car crash expresses gratitude to those who saved her life.

OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center says on April 23 of 2018, Kara Bye was involved in a crash off Route 76 in Boone County. That crash left the mother of three in serious condition as she suffered several severe injuries. After a long recovery, Bye decided to thank the EMTs of Boone County District 2 Fire and the OSF Lifeline Ambulance on Thursday.

“I’m so thankful for what you guys did for me and my family,” Bye said to first responders. “And every day you guys are in my prayers. You guys are amazing.”

Bye’s family met with the law enforcement at the Boone County District 2 fire station for cookies and sweets. She says that because of  the first responders’ quick actions, she is able to still be a mom to her kids.

”I’m here every day chasing these three,” said Bye. “And I want to let them know that I am grateful for everything they have done and for all the new memories I can make because without them, that wouldn’t be an option.”

This experience has inspired Bye so much, that she is looking into starting a career in law enforcement
so she can help save other people’s lives.
