ROCKFORD (WREX) — The Rockford Fourth of July Committee chooses its next Honorary Parade Marshal.
The committee names Carly Rice, founder of Miss Carly’s, as its next parade marshal.
Rockford parade marshals are responsible for putting on Rockford’s Fourth of July parade and the parade marshals get to lead the parade. The leader of those marshals is the Honorary Parade Marshal, chosen for their commitment to the community and the work they do to improve it.
The committee released a statement about why it chose Carly Rice as the 2019 Honorary Parade Marshal:
“Many around are probably wondering what Miss Carly’s is. It’s a lighthouse for the lost. A beacon of hope for those who feel hopeless. It started with sharing food from their table to the homeless and the wanderers on the streets of Rockford. Word got out about a family who gives with no want in return and they now feed up to 200 people out of their home. It’s a family adventure. Carly’s family helps with the meals, clothing, playing, counseling and befriending. There are many NFP groups in Rockford that reach out and do their best to help, but Miss Carly’s is unique because they make everyone, and I mean everyone, of any background, feel welcomed in their home! They have grown to help people with addictions to seek help, they are saving lives in our community by opening their life up to many in need.”
