OREGON (WREX)- Conner Young is already an award winner, last year he won an Inspiring 815 Awawrd for his work helping veterans.

The Oregon High School student walked 22 miles, twice for a group called Mission 22.

“A veteran organization that helps out veterans get the help they need from PTSD and traumatic brain injuries,” says Young.

But, it’s what he did after winning the award that may make more of a difference in his community.

“We started Inspiring 220 with the National Honor Society,” he says. “Now we’re spreading civility throughout Oregon.”

The NHS at Oregon High School has given three inspiring awards. The latest winner is Andrew Carlson, the owner of Scoops- Steam Powered Subs & Deli.

“This is exactly what we set out to do,” Carlson says. “This means more to me than I can even put into words.”

Carlson was nominated by two Oregon students because he employs them, hosts class events and shares his insight of entrepreneurship.

“I grew up here, my heart is here, this is home,” He added.

Young and the NHS hope to continue to honor those who inspire others.

“Each time I step in here and we give another award, they’re realizing that ‘wow, I am making a difference,'” Young says. “Let’s keep it up and continue to move forward.”
