(NBC) – There’s a growing wave of Social Security impostors, according to the Federal Trade Commission.

Up until now, scammers pretending to be from the IRS have been the most common way to trick people into sending money. But now, Social Security Administration impostors are on the rise.

Don’t trust caller ID even if the call shows up as the Social Security Administration, and remember, the Social Security Administration will never contact you out of the blue.

Never give the caller your personal information or Social Security number.
