‘Minding the Gap’ Director presents check to Remedies Renewing Lives at IceHogs game

ROCKFORD (WREX) – For its final game of the season, the Rockford IceHogs welcomed a special guest to the BMO Harris Bank Center.

Bing Liu, the director of the documentary, Minding the Gap, appeared at the game to present a check for $2,000 to Remedies Renewing Lives. The money is being donated by the IceHogs. Remedies Renewing Lives provides services for survivors of domestic violence and substance abuse treatment.

“It’s really meaningful,” said Liu. “The awards campaign, it sometimes it felt like a political campaign in a sense. You’re just sort of trying to get your thumb out there and position it for awards. But this type of stuff is a little bit more in line with the reason why I went into filmmaking in the first place, which was to try to make a difference and an impact in the community.”

Liu was also in Rockford on Saturday for a screening of Minding the Gap at the Nordlof Center. Proceeds from that event benefited the Boone County CASA, Children’s Safe Harbor, and a Rockford Skatepark initiative.
