ROCKFORD (WREX) – Building walls all for a great cause. Dozens of volunteers came out to the Home Depot on State Street on Saturday to take park in the annual Framing Hope event.
The event is put on by the Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity. People helped build walls for homes that will eventually be a part of a group of affordable homes for local families.
One of those volunteers is Reshonda.
“I feel great helping others get their project started like they did for me,” said Reshonda.
Reshonda not only helped create walls, but she is also getting a new home. She says having this opportunity has allowed to her achieve something she has been reaching for.
“My goal was to own a home by 40 and I am 40 years old right now,” said Reshonda. “My birthday is June 7 and I will be turning 41. So I will moving into my own home on June 1 and I would have accomplished a great goal that I had been looking forward to doing.”
Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity says in total, five houses will be built.
